by brandon lee"Depression is the most common mental health disorder, affecting nearly one in eight adolescents and young adults each year"* The goal of NYSMHO is to raise awareness and lead projects to improve the commonly disregarded struggling mental health of those within the New York community. Our hopes? To spread awareness of mental health stigmas to help keep NYC a more socially conscious and aware environment. We want to educate the population that seeking proper mental health resources to help should be done when necessary. If we can destigmatize the shame of seeking mental health professionals such as therapists or school guidance counselors, we can bring underground, lurking mental health issues to light. Finding the courage to recognize one's problems (whether it is detrimental or minute) is already the first step of healing. NYSMHO utilizes multiple forms of media to educate the NYC student population on how to seek help for when they need it. NYSMHO also holds fundraisers in schools around NYC in order to donate towards the American Academy Of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, also known as the AACAP (https://www.aacap.org/). Stay updated on future events on our socials linked below. We also have other projects planned that we hope to release to the public soon, involving NYC public schools and the education of mental health stigma. Stay safe everyone!
